From Castiglion Fiorentino the itinerary leads towards
Arezzo, a city that conserves its archaeological testi-monies in the extraordinary scenario of the “Gaio Cilnio Mecenate” National Archaeological Museum located inside the old monastery of the Olivetan monks of Saint Bernard, built over the ruins of the Roman amphitheatre (first half of the second century AD).
There are numerous objects that testify to the importance of the centre and the territory of Arezzo in the Etruscan period.
The Attic crater with red figures of Euphronios (500 BC) and the amphora of the painter of Meidias, a collection of jewellery (earrings, buckles, a gold diadem) from the sepulchres of the city, in particular the necropolis of “Poggio del Sole” in the south-east, a decorative polychrome slab from the fronton of a temple discovered in the city near Piazza S. Jacopo, clay busts and heads portraying males and females, children’s faces, all from the city, and in particular from the sanctuary of Castelsecco, near Arezzo.
